So, this is a nice start for the new leader of the CDA, Henri Bontenbal. Caroline van der Plas found a tweet of his from 2019. In that tweet, he harshly opposes the farmers and warns his party that it must break with the peasantry to survive politically.
Historically, of course, the CDA has always been the farmers' party of the Netherlands. The countryside is where that party's natural, traditional constituency lives. Or, well, it was until the leftist lunatics took control there too and sacrificed farmers on the altar of "climate change."
Caroline van der Plas shows today that the CDA's new leader is more of the same in that regard. Indeed, Henri Bontenbal is one of the instigators of the CDA's decision to turn against farmers. That is very clear from a tweet that Bontenbal put on X (then: Twitter) in 2019... and which Van der Plas got above board.
The tweets in question (as it is a series) begin with a very shepherding statement. "Guys can it please be a little more intelligent? If the CDA continues to present itself as a farmer's party," he wrote at the time, "then that's the recipe for over and out in 10 years or so. I don't want to witness that. Why are we making this part of our constituency so important?"

And in a follow-up tweet he explained for clarity that there are only 54,000 farmers in the Netherlands, but 51,000 police officers, that 1.3 million people work in health care, and that some 414,000 people work in education." Those people are much more important, he thought at the time, than the farmers. They should just cook in their own manure;

This man is one of the main reasons the CDA has left farmers to their own devices in recent years. This has been a very conscious choice for him. After all, as a far-left lunatic, he fully believes in the climate whine and wants to discharge farmers as hard as possible.
(Article continues below this call) Unlike the CDA, DDS stands firmly behind our farmers. But this means we have your support to keep DDS on the air. Because the media and party cartel are punishing us for our peasant support. Support us, that's why! Donate to DDS, via BackMe, and help us defend farmers!
On top of that, he really believes that the CDA can "become great again" just by betraying the peasants s. So it is on the one hand ideological that he wants to leave the farmers out in the cold, but it is also opportunistic.
Well, so CDA'ers should be happy about that. They now have a leader who is publicly, loudly saying that he wants to get rid of the farmers as a constituency, that he doesn't need them, and that he thinks they can all be nicely chased out of the country because real votes can be collected from other professional groups.
What a shame.
